Walks and guided tours discovering nature and history of the Montalbano

We present our guided visits programme, a journey through culture, colours, flavours and images of our territory. Our summer guided walks on the Montalbano finish on Saturday September 23 with an excursion from San Baronto to the medieval village of Larciano Castello following a road and a path in the countryside. Walking Montalbano guided walks come back next year to discover the treasures which our territory offers.

June 8th 2017, h 9.30
Leonardo’s view: the church of Orbignano and the Leporaia’s hill
Visit of the Church of Santa Maria del Pruno in Orbignano, then start of the loop walk from Fornello to Leporaia’s hill. During the walk it will be possible to observe the views on Sant’Amato and Valdarno’s side.

History and legends of San Baronto and Barco Reale, the old de’ Medici hunting preserve
After a visit of the church and its evocative Romanic crypt our guide will lead you through the ridge path, to discover some of the most amazing views in the area telling you the history and the legends of our territory, from the Barco Reale Mediceo, the Medici hunting preserve, to the Sasso di Pietra, the huge stone shrouded in mystery and popular fascination.

The tabernacles: walk from Lamporecchio to Porciano
After a short visit of the Church of St Stefano the walk follows the path number 18, through Greppiano, the rural hamlet of Fattoio, Lampaggio, to reach Porciano where it will be possible to visit the Church of St Giorgio where you can enjoy one of the most amazing panoramic views in the area. Another path will be followed to go back to Lamporecchio. The common denominators of these paths are the tabernacles, proof of an ancient and appealing but still palpable past.

Along medieval trails: walk to Larciano castello
The walk starts from San Baronto and then continues to the medieval village of Larciano Castello following a road and a path in the countryside. In Larciano Castello you’ll visit the medieval stronghold, a fortress used by Pistoia’s citizens in the Middle Ages as sighting tower.

A Pope’s villa in Lamporecchio: Villa Rospigliosi and its park
After a pleasant walk in the park, our guide will show you one of our territory’s jewels, the magnificent Villa Rospigliosi surrounded by a luxuriant Italian Renaissance garden.

Thursday July 13th, h 9.30
Colours, flavors and traditions of our territory: walk and guided visit of “Forrà Pruno” farm
The walk starts from Lamporecchio, following a path surrounded by olive groves and vineyards and stops at Forrà Pruno farm which opens up its doors to show us the activities and the products grown in their land. After the visit the walk goes back to the starting point.

Nature and art on the Montalbano: an artist’s studio
After a visit of the church and its evocative Romanic crypt the walk continues on a path that leads to the goal of our guided visit, a true art oasis, Maria Grazia Sangiorgi and Rolf Feddern’s studio. The artists will show us their works and how they come to life. The return to the starting point will follow another path.

OLD PATHS AND OUR LAND’S PRODUCTS
The itinerary follows an old path which leads to San Baronto and then stops at “Du Passi” farm where you will see the cheese-making transformation process and final tasting.

AUGUST 17th, h 9.30
STORIES AND TRADITIONS
The walk starts from Porciano with the visit at the local embroideries exhibition in the Church of San Giorgio and then heads to Papiano with its villa which hosts another embroideries exhibition, passing through the via Vecchia Maremmana old path.

WAITING FOR THE GRAPE HARVEST
The walk follows the path number 18 and reaches Greppiano area, where you will visit Fadanelli Farm with its vineyards and cellars just a few weeks before the grape harvest.
